Batch 206’s Barrel Rested ‘Old Tom’ Counter Gin Wins Gold at the 2015 American Craft Spirits Association Spirits Competition!

Seattle, February 18, 2015: The American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA) hosted their annual Awards Ceremony on Sunday, February 15th, in Austin, TX, celebrating the finest craft spirits in the country. The American Craft Spirits Association conference, conducted from February 14-16th, is the largest gathering of licensed craft spirits producers in the United States. Batch 206 Distillery is thrilled to announce that their barrel rested ‘Old Tom’ Counter Gin won top honors, taking home a Gold Medal in the Barrel Aged Gin category.

Asked for reaction, owner Jeff Steichen commented “it’s pretty great to be recognized by a jury of our industry peers and to have received the highest honor. Barrel Aged Gin’s are an emerging category in the craft spirits world, it’s really exciting that the ACSA has created a category dedicated to it.”

To produce ‘Old Tom’ Counter Gin, our master distiller, Mike McSorley, takes our existing award winning recipe for our New American style Counter Gin and rests it for approximately six months in prior use Hungarian Oak Chardonnay Barrels. The resulting Spirit is reminiscent of the finest dry gins, but with a subtle sweetness and spiciness that only a leisurely stay in these particular barrels can provide. This unique gin lends itself particularly well to sipping neat, on the rocks, or missing with ingredients that have savory or herbaceous undertones.
