Wine Enthusiast Magazine selects Batch 206 Counter Gin as “1 of 11 American Gins to Try”

Seattle, July 22, 2014: The July issue of WINE ENTHUSIAST Magazine has recognized Batch 206 Distillery’s Counter Gin as one of 11 Must Try American Gins, scoring 91 points from the esteemed publication. Counter Gin was the 5th highest scoring American Gin of 2014 and the top scoring Gin from the West Coast.

Of Counter Gin, Wine Enthusiast writes “The gingerbread-like aroma entices with a fleeting whiff of nutmeg and baking spice, while the palate zings with grapefruit-peel bitterness and lemon verbena. The mouthwatering finish harmoniously echoes the spicy notes detected in the aroma: anise, cardamom, baking spice, and a final dose of citrus, all smoothed over by a cucumber-like freshness.”

Asked for reaction, owner Jeff Steichen commented “It’s been quite a month, our Distillery was just featured by the Washington Wine Commission at the Aspen Food and Wine Show in Colorado and our unique style of Gin seems to be receiving accolades from all the right sources!” In addition to the Wine Enthusiast article, the venerated Gin blog, The Gin Is in, also just published a glowing review of Counter Gin, rating it 4/5 stars. Steichen went on to comment “It’s also great to see another distillery from Seattle, our friends at Copperworks, be included on the list as well, must be our long rainy winters.”

Counter Gin begins as Batch 206’s flagship vodka. Then, the eight botanicals are steeped in the vodka for 36 hours. Counter Gin contains juniper berries from Albania, whole cucumbers from Seattle’s Pike Place Market, tarragon and verbena leaves from Provence, lavender flowers from Sequim, Washington, and orange peel from Seville, Spain, along with Floridian Meyer lemon peel, the complex botanical composition of the COUNTER GIN infusion makes it an enigmatic original. The infusion is then re-distilled to make Counter Gin.
